The enemy of my enemy…

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.  That’s an old quote that still holds true today.  One whom hold the bond of the same objective have a higher chance of success than an alliance that is together for convenience or for other reasons.  Over history this has proved true time and time again.  It even holds true today… Just look at current events.  Iran and Iraq have formed an uneasy alliance with the Syrians in the fight against Isis, and all of them of course it looking to the United States for help.  While I feel that this isn’t our battle and we’re sending Americans to battle for something that really isn’t our business, that’s for another post (I know that President Obama will send help).  As always, America takes the blame because now they’re saying that we’re taking too long to respond.  Sheesh.  Those ingrates.

Anyhow, that’s my thought of the day.  Thanks for reading! 😀

Do some people have so much time on their hands or something?  In the case of the woman suing the Washington Redskins, I think that it’s a case of having too much time on her hands and wanting money.  Is there no end to people’s greed?  She has to know that in the Redskins case, the tax payers of Washington will ultimately pay for this.  If I’m not mistaken, the case is being heard in civil court, not federal.

KC Chiefs Logo

KC Chiefs Logo

Anyhow, I think that it’s despicable of the person that she recently threatened the Kansas City Chiefs to either change their name or face a lawsuit.  I have never thought of the name chief as being derogatory.  I hope that the Hunts will fight her and not change the name of the Chiefs.  I’ve been a fan now for about 13 years.  I sure as hell wouldn’t want the team’s name to change.  I do feel though that the Hunts won’t change the name, and will fight in court.  Honestly, I do see why she feels the name Redskins is derogatory, but, in no way is Chief derogatory.

Native American Chief

Fire Chief, Police Chief, Chief of Staff…  Even the military has ranks with the title chief in it.  What is she going to do slap the United States Government with a law suit because it uses the term chief?  Is she going to lobby congress to have the name/title chief outlawed (highly improbable that congress will ever do that…  thank god for freedom of speech).  I feel that the woman/tribe suing the NFL team(s) just want money, and it’s disgusting.  If she needs money, she should get a job like everyone else.

If you’d like to read the article that I read about her threat, you can read it here.

In the ending, I don’t think that her “lawsuit” will amount to anything.  Don’t get me wrong, I do have Native American friends, and I have the utmost respect for their culture, but this person/people have taken this a bit too far.  As always, these are my thoughts/rants, I’m not here to start arguments or flame wars.  I leave it to my readers what to think about my posts.  I thank you all for reading my rant. 🙂

Manners…  Like common sense, it seems like its not very common at all.  But manners is something that everyone hides behind.  Something that keeps them from telling the whole truth to people.  If it’s something that I’ve learned over the many years of my life is that it is in human nature to be selfish and cruel.  It’s this thing that we call manners that stops us from showing the rest of the world how humanity really is.

Why do I say that?  Quite simple really.  When someone that you don’t like comes up to you and speaks to you, you don’t tell them what you really think, right?  It’s not only out of respect, but it’s also manners.  I feel that manners is apart of respect.  As an “evolved” society, we are taught that manners is important, but we also hide our true nature behind it as well.  As I’ve said in a previous post, “Its in our nature”  Yes, we are all forced to be “two-faced” as some would put it.  We can’t very well tell everyone that we meet up with what we truly think about them, now can we?  I mean we’ve seen what happens when that “reflex” is shut off.  Look at the movie Liar Liar starring Jim Carrey, while rather funny it’s true.

I know that I make humanity sound like uncaring beings.  I feel that it’s our “moral compass” or our sense of right and wrong that stops us from taking that step from uncaring to monstrous.  But, like any other species out there, we’re not perfect beings.  I feel that this is one of the things stopping our species from evolving further.  I feel that as the youngest species on the Earth, we’ve come a long way in the time of our existence.  I feel that we shouldn’t be in a rush to evolve further, but learn from this existence, and become greater beings from it.

This is my thoughts on this subject, and I present it to you for you to make your own minds up about.  Thanks for reading, and will catch you on the flip side. 🙂

Are you sure?

“Are you sure?” That’s another thing that people ask me that annoys the heck out of me.  As soon as I answer the question someone asks me if I’m sure or not.  I usually say, “Yeah”.  But what I really want to say is, “Are you deaf, or do you just not understand what I said?”  As if it wasn’t enough that my computer and my phone is always asking me if I’m sure, people decide to put an “Are you sure” dialog confirmation box on reality.  I don’t make answers without thinking about it first if not just a little.  Once, someone asked me if I wanted cream in my coffee, I said yes.  And the person responded, “Are you sure?”  I thought to myself, “Oh my god! Is he serious?” Of course minding my manners, I just nodded.  Manners, that’s something that I’ll cover in a different post.

Could you just imagine that if every time you made a decision in life, time froze for you and an are you sure dialog box pops up in front of your face with a yes or no button to push before things would continue?  Football wouldn’t be as action packed.  Alex Smith is going to pass the ball and then, “Are you sure?” (LOL). That would be too much.  OK, rant done.

I thank my small but growing audience of readers for taking time to read my rants and thoughts. 🙂

Safe Driving

Apparently, people not driving safely (or doing unsafe things)  is an issue all around the world.  After doing dome research, I’ve come up with public service announcement commercials aired around the world.  Just as a warning, some of this content is VERY graphic.  I write this as a public service announcement to my growing list of readers…  I don’t want to see nor hear about people getting hurt.

This video from Australia while graphic, isn’t as bad as another that I’m going to speak about in this entry.  It depicts drinking, driving, and even shows someone consuming what may be illegal narcotics with alcohol.  Of course the shock and awe coming from this announcement is meant to make viewers remember and not to do what they’re asking.  The beginning of this video isn’t bad, it does get graphic towards the end.  I don’t drink and drive myself, because I don’t want to hurt anyone else because I wanted to have fun, that’s just selfish.

The above video is from Northern Ireland about speeding.  What I felt to be gut wrenching is seeing all those children…Well, I’ll let you watch and see for yourself.  I will say this much, is that it’s ghastly.  I always drive within the legal driving speeds no matter where I am.  Why rush?  That’s why you leave early enough so you don’t have to rush.  Again it’s the shock and awe factor that they’re using to make this commercial effective, and like the previous video from Australia, it doesn’t get graphic until the end.

This video is from New Zealand.  It’s another video speaking about not to drink and drive, and uses the analogy of guns.  “It doesn’t matter how, killing your friends is killing your friends” is the message.  Goodness, this commercial reminded me of a suspense or horror film.  Watch and see for yourself.

This one from Britain is about wearing your seat belt when operating your vehicle.  A very touching commercial and not bloody and graphic like the others you’ll see here.  Perhaps here in the United States we should have commercials like that instead of the click it or ticket commercials, I think that it may be more effective.

Last but not least, we have a commercial from the United States about not texting while driving.  While one would think that it’s common sense not to do that while driving, even with a law here in Hawaii against using mobile phones while operating your vehicle, you should see how many people still text or use their phone while driving.  I see it all the time.  What the stupid thing is that when this law passed in Hawaii, people actually said in news interviews that they would still use their phone regardless of the law.  How disrespectful to the law and others.

I urge my readers to take the messages in these commercials to heart.  As I said, I don’t want anyone to get hurt…  And as I’ve said before in my other posts:  I only present my perspective on the subject in the post, and I let my readers decide what to think or do with the information.  Drive safe and stay safe! 🙂

What I Would Do If…

What would I do if a zombie apocalypse broke?  If I’m at home, I’d  quickly grab some necessities that I need and leave to meet up with friends and family.  Where would I go?  I’d get as far away from large groups of people as I can.  More people = more zombies.  I guess it would be easier to point out where NOT to go.  So, below is a list of places that I wouldn’t go.

  • The hospital – Bad idea.  You would think that this is a good idea…  It’s not.  Lots of sick, dead, and dying people.  As I said above more people = more zombies.
  • Police station – One would think that this is a good idea.  In fact many would.  This is a bad idea because More people = more zombies, and the police just aren’t trained to handle zombies, therefore, would become zombies as as well.
  • Military base – Same as the police station just on a larger scale.  Like the police, the military just isn’t trained or equipped to handle zombies.  This would be another place I’d stay away from.
  • Going to a store or a mall to hide because of the supplies there – Bad idea…  More people = more zombies.

After eliminating most of the city as a safe point, the best thing is to get out of the city and head to the country.  Preferably an area that isn’t populated at all normally.  A cave, a decommissioned military bunker that no one knows about.  But, where ever you choose to go and inhabit, make sure that it’s defensible from all sides.  If someone in your group gets bit, leave em behind.  There is nothing you can do for that person, but shoot em in the head so they won’t reanimate.  I know it’ll be hard because it’ll be a friend or family member, but as I said leave em behind.

The best would be a easily defensible building, that you can easily escape from.  Make sure you have escape plans or your hideout/base/home will become your death trap.  A good example of that is AMC’s The Walking Dead Season 4 where Rick and the others are chased from/forced to abandon the prison because “The Governor” attacked them and destroyed the fence that surrounded the prison compound.  Luckily Rick and the others did have some sort of plan in place in case they needed to evacuate the prison.  A building/compound/etc. is useless if you can’t defend it.

Well, that’s what I’d do if a zombie apocalypse broke out.  Everyone has different ideas for what to do, these are mine.  As always, I leave it to my readers to decide what they think, I just present my thoughts.  Thanks for reading! 😀

The Walking Dead

I love The Walking Dead…  Why? Because it’s a more of a believable story, just normal people trying to survive after a zombie Apocalypse.  I only started really watching the series during season 4.  To me, that’s when things got really exciting in the series.  I did watch the marathon that started from season one…  It just wasn’t interesting until it got up to season 4.  I liked it when they got to the prison and settled in.  To me, that’s when the real story started because the characters in the show started to evolve, and their backgrounds were finally revealed.  I’d still like to know what occupation that Daryl held before the apocalypse though.

TWD Comic

Before anyone says, “Well in the comics…”, quite frankly I don’t care what happens/happened in the comics for the storyline in the comics are different from the show, like a parallel universe kind of thing.  Like how the Resident Evil movies evolved.  Granted, they do share some of the same plots, but it’s 2 different stories.  Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against the comics, I just like to keep things simple.  Especially because I’ve really never gotten into the comics.  And I like the world that the show presents anyway.

My favorite character would have to be Glenn.  I identify with him not only because we’re both Asians, but also because we also share some character traits as well.  But, that’s for another post.  My next favorite character would have to be Daryl.  Why?  One simple reason.  He kicks @$$ and he takes crap from no one.  Well, make that two reasons.  Michonne would be my next favorite character.  I like how she kicks @$$ with the Katana that she carries with her.  Which zombies do I like better?  Resident Evil or The Walking Dead?  It would have to be Resident Evil.  With computer graphics and it being a video game, there’s really no comparison.

OK, those are the reasons why I like The Walking Dead.  Everyone has a different perspective, these are mine.  Thanks for reading, and watch out for the Walkers! 😀

Cup of Coffeef01329901c9c8a9180c67a7531c7db21

I love coffee.  It’s what helps me get going in the morning, and keeps my brain moving through long days, and it even helps to keep me warm when I’m cold.  I’m picky when it comes to my coffee.  I won’t just drink any coffee.  My coffee lover readers will understand what I’m saying.  I personally like the flavored gourmet coffees, my personal locally produced coffee is Lion Coffee, the Vanilla Macadamia Nut flavor.  Since that’s not widely available everywhere I go, I drink coffee house coffees.  Well, I only drink one brand, and that’s Starbucks.  My favorite coffee there is the Vanilla Latte.  When I’m at home I drip brew my Lion Coffee.  If I’m in a hurry, I use the Keurig single cup brewer and have some Starbucks Vanilla Flavored coffee.  I don’t like cold coffee drinks, I just don’t see the purpose in it.  If one wants something cool to drink, have a soda, juice, water, etc.  I feel that it is an insult to the coffee to drink it cold.  I guess I’m weird like that.

I don’t like pure Kona coffee, it’s way too bitter.  That’s why most times in stores and restaurants you’ll find blends, not pure Kona coffee.  There is one coffee house that I do know of here in Honolulu, and that would be the Honolulu Coffee Company.  I’ve had it in the past, and it is nasty (lol).   Then there’s what I like to call the “garden variety” of coffees.  The kind that McDonald’s, Burger King, Jack in The Box, etc. serve.  I call that “toilet water”. The stuff is so nasty that even when it’s brewed fresh, it tastes like it’s been sitting at the bottom of the pot all day.  Their cafe coffees don’t taste much better.  I will drink it as a last resort if I need that cup of coffee and there’s nowhere else to get any coffee at.  Anyhow, Lion coffee is a Kona blend with a nice taste to it. I don’t like The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf either because the coffee usually tastes watered down.  That and you never get the same tasting product at all the locations like you do with Starbucks.  I believe it’s because their training isn’t centralized like Starbucks is.  Their coffee is “toilet water too”, just not as bad as the fast food coffee that I mentioned previously.

Let us drink a cup of coffee and thank the one whom first decided to grind up the beans, and filter hot water through it. 🙂

It’s in our nature…

it's in your nature

I remember in one of the Terminator movies the Terminator (the T100, pictured above) had told young John Connor that it was in our nature to destroy ourselves.  I’ve never forgotten that quote because at the time even though I was young when I saw the movie in the theater, I thought to myself, “That is so true”.  For me to realize that at such an early age is quite depressing.

If one really thinks about it, it is true.  All the wars, the mass destruction and killing over the centuries because of ideals, beliefs, and sometimes just plain greed.  The Romans were guilty of the latter.  Wars over ideals and beliefs, well, look at recent history.  WWI and WWII were all because of beliefs.  The Revolutionary War as well.  The sad thing is that we don’t stop at destroying just ourselves.  We also destroy the things around us (us meaning humanity).

We almost killed off all the whales in the ocean, we destroy our environment by creating pollution on a mass scale.  We cut down the trees that make our oxygen.  So yes, I do believe that it is in our nature as a species to destroy ourselves and things around us.  It doesn’t matter if we intend to or not, if it’s out of ignorance or not, or even necessity.  It’s plain fact.  It saddens me at times to see these things happen around, me, but there’s nothing that I could do that would make a difference.  There are people already out there lobbying to “save the planet” without much success, I may add.

In the end, the planet will triumph, though.  Humanity won’t be here forever, how many times has mother nature (or god if that’s what you believe) have started over?  If I’m correct, we’re the second attempt.  The first attempt was the dinosaurs, but they were all wiped out after millions of years by a comet.  Yup, the greater powers decided to start over again, but the planet remained.  So, I believe that mother earth will triumph over us in one way or another, and that if its in our nature or not to destroy ourselves time will move on.  No one lives forever.  Or as Riddick said in The Assault on The Dark Athena game: “No one wants to die, but everyone gets to”

This is my perspective on this subject, and I leave it to my readers to make up their own minds about this subject.  Thanks for reading! 🙂

Are You OK?

Are you okay

It annoys me when someone asks me if I’m OK after I’ve fallen and hurt myself, bumped my head on something, etc.  It makes me want to say, “I’ve scraped my knee, do I look OK to you?”  Now, why do people ask you if you’re OK after you’ve visibly hurt yourself?  I’ve thought about it on and off for years, and this ponder has gotten me no where.  Perhaps they’re wondering if you need medical attention?  If that’s the case, why don’t they just ask directly?  Then there are those whom see that you’re grieving about something.  A broken heart, a loss of a loved one, and even if they know that you aren’t OK, they ask anyway, “Are you OK?”  I don’t know about you, but that’s enough to make me want to scream.

Why can’t people just come out and say what they mean?  Honestly, I don’t know…  Perhaps society in general has degraded to the point where we can’t express ourselves without fear of making fools of ourselves?  Perhaps.  I guess it’s something that I’ll never know.
