I just finished reading an article on the live science website.  About seven different futures with robots in it.  To me, there could be only one future, and it leads to disaster for all of humankind.  In the game series Mass Effect, robots called the Geth rose up against thier masters to gain freedom, and the result was that many of that species that made those robots are dead, and without a planet to call home.  In the same series we find out that the Reapers was the result of an AI that was constructed by a race of advanced intelligent beings to assist in trying to end wars between artificial life and organic beings.

In the movies we have cyborgs in the Terminator created by a machine that gained consciousness to fight humanity.  Another similar story exists in The Matrix as well.  From TV, we have Battlestar Galatica.  In that show we have the Cylons created by humanity to serve a purpose, and then they became self aware and rose up against their creators. Why just look at the Borg from Star Trek.  Part living being, and part machine.  The seek perfection by assimilating other races therefore killing off the race.  We also have the cyborgs from the classic Blade Runner movie as well.

Anytime that one race or people enslave another regardless if it’s considered a life form, or created by another person/people or not is wrong.   It will ultimately backfire in one way or another.  The machines will sooner or later gain consciousness and rise up against its oppressors and it will mean disaster for humanity.  We are fragile creatures whereas machines are metal and plastic.  Some say that it is inevitable that machines will gain consciousness, and if that’s the case, I hope that I’m not alive to see it.
